Perry’s ~ San Francisco International Airport, Terminal 1, Boarding Area C near Gate 42
"After a Dante-esque journey through Terminal 1 ticketing and security, I had 20 minutes to pack in breakfast and a couple of drinks. I was at an Irish wake the night before, and I desperately needed two fried eggs and three coffees-with-Jameson’s. Simple pleasures, sure, yet it’s amazing how many places screw it up. But Perry’s absolutely nailed it--and won me over. Maybe it was the dark wood on the bar and booths. Maybe it was the tiling on the floor, with its understated black and white patterns. Maybe it was the crisp linen napkins, heavy ceramic plates, and no-foolin metal silverware. But I think what really sealed the deal was Perry’s perfectly-cuffed zinc bar, a lovely throwback to the glory days of the City by the Bay. Be sure to chat up Carol, a friendly bartender who knows how to serve a customer in a hurry--and who has a nice, heavy pour, as well. Manager Ismail is on top of this place, and it shows. It’s rare that I’m reluctant to leave an airport bar, but Perry’s pulls off a remarkable feat: it captures the best aspects of the city it serves. Top shelf."
