Mission Bar and Grill ~ San Francisco International Airport, Terminal 3, Boarding Area E near Gate 64
"The only bar amongst the gates at the American terminal. It is mostly tables, and has a small bar in the back. The food is short order and a step above fast food. The people running ti are friendly enough, but nothing special sets this bar apart except that its really your only option if you want to stay close to your gate."

Buena Vista Cafe ~ San Francisco International Airport, Terminal 3, Boarding Area F near Gate 82
"Solid "Airport Outpost" bar. Better than average for a decent breakfast and bloody, and the bartenders are old guys straight out of central casting. Another bonus: The place is physically big with a long bar and ample seating."

El Cholo ~ Los Angeles International Airport, Terminal 5, Near Gate 54A
"Stumbled upon this place while looking for a bite before a flight to JFK. Its the usual Airport bar (decorative empty booze bottles behind the bar, check your ID even if you're 90). This place is set apart by two things: 1) The Mexican food, while the "americanized" type, is actually very good (beats your average Mexican restaurant). 2) Fernando, the bartender, is top-notch and has been working at LAX bars for 32 years."
