I won the Bull Halsey Trophy when I graduated from the Naval Academy, so let's just say that I don't exactly gel in Portland. If you're not a Civil War general, you have no business with hair on your face. I mean, I look around and see a bunch of guys who would rather cry than do pushups. Anyway, you can see how I might not get along too well in Portland. But here's the thing. I love this place. Not only are the beers pretty good, but they don't get all upset when you start pounding pints like a sailor. In a lot of airport bars, I get cut off after a couple pitchers. C'mon people. It's like you've never seen a guy in a pilot's uniform before.

Great beer (I prefer any IPA they have on tap), great drinks, and great food (my wife loves the Chicken Caesar Wrap). Laurelwood is the only spot for a drink when flying out of Concourse A. Due to the close proximity to the gates, you can definitely have "just one more" and still make it on your flight.

Phenomenal Northwest Microbrew's as you wait for your flight. Couple of TV's to watch, nice staff (it's Portland of course), and a great location if you are flying Alaska or Horizon. Get to the airport early to allow yourself enough time to sample a couple of their beers.

Being that I fly Horizon Air a lot (free drinks on Horizon, bonus), this is the customary stop for local fliers. It's not just the beers, but the food is great as well. They often offer special brews that they serve at the restaurant (seasonal IPA, winter brew, etc.). If you fly Alaska or Horizon, this is your destination spot. They have additional seating around the side of the bar. Do not take a beer with you through the terminal. It is a huge fine. Consider this fair warning.

A great stop for that one last sip of NW micros. If only more airports featured local breweries. What a great memory of Oregon...sooo much beer, so little time.
